MAKE ODD DOWN PLAYING FIELDS OUR VILLAGE GREEN |
|
THE CAMPAIGN:
Odd Down Playing Fields are a wide open space with sports pitches which is in constant use by residents in the local are and from across the City of Bath. The fileds have been used as a recreational area for over 100 years and was the original venue of the Royal Bath & West Show. However, being a large undeveloped area it has become increasingly attractive to developers in Bath where there is little room left to build on.
In 2004 Bath & North East Somerset Council were proposing to build St John’s new primary school on Odd Down Playing Fields which would have meant the loss of playing fields and open space as well as causing more traffic congestion and having a major impact on the local primary schools. After a nine-month campaign by Oddrag – Odd Down Residents Action Group – the proposals were dropped and the school is now being built in Oldfield Park.
This is not the first time the playing fields have been under threat of development and Oddrag is now to acting to prevent any other suggestion of development happening again. Oddrag is now seeking to get the fields village green status so the community can use it for recreation - indefinitely.
Click here to download a Village Green form and return it the addresses on the form by 20th July.
