Neighbourhood Watch Scheme This month’s newsletter General Information Previous Newletters |

The aim of Neighbourhood Watch is to reduce
crime and develop greater community spirit. This is achieved by increasing
awareness of good security, caring for one’s neighbours, discouraging
anti-social behaviour and prompt reporting of suspicious or criminal activity.
A NW Scheme is started when an interested
group of people arrange with the police to hold an Inaugural Meeting and commit
themselves to the Scheme and one another.
An appointed Co-ordinator for each road (or a
Contact Person for a small number of houses) liases between the police and the
group to pass on information of any adverse activity in the locality through a
system of "Watchout Alerts" and newsletters. Neighbourhood Watch
members also report suspicious or criminal activity to the police and their
road Co-ordinators. The Co-ordinators in an area can be linked together by
email and meet regularly to share local information.
